Mindful Yoga blends hatha yoga techniques with mindfulness teachings, inviting us to develop a more intimate relationship with the present moment. Through gentle movement, breathwork and awareness, we return to the reality of our experience—moment by moment, breath by breath. We bring friendly curiosity to the experience of being alive: a body filled with sensation, a heart moving through emotion, and a mind alive with thoughts. Rather than trying to change, control or perfect ourselves, we practice meeting each moment as it is.
Although mindful yoga offers many physical benefits—including stress relief, increased strength and greater suppleness—its deeper purpose is to cultivate attention and presence. The postures and breath become tools for noticing how we relate to our experience, creating space for insight, wisdom and compassion to emerge. In this way, mindfulness becomes something we embody through movement, rather than simply an idea we understand.
Mindful Yoga Flow is gentle rather than fast-paced or vigorously physical, making it accessible to many people, including those who are newer to yoga. The emphasis is not on achieving or performing poses, but on using them as a foundation for presence, awareness and self-compassion. Accessibility is an important value in this class, and modifications are always offered, including chair-based and wall-supported options. The only requirement is that you are able to climb stairs, as the class takes place on the second floor.
A typical class may include:
Arriving and warming up the body and breath — 20 minutes
Setting a theme and intention — 15 minutes
Mindful movement — 30 minutes
Deep relaxation and restorative yoga — 40 minutes
Mindfulness meditation — 15 minutes
The two-hour format might seem intimidating or impossible in a busy world, but it gives us the rare opportunity to slow down, settle into our bodies and allow the practice to unfold without rushing.
In a fast-paced world that often demands constant productivity, stimulation and forward motion, this spaciousness is a profound and potent gift we can give ourselves. The extended time allows us not only to slow down, but also to have moments to pause, rest, reflect and integrate, so that the benefits of the practice can be felt more deeply and carried with us back into into daily life.
