Sunday Dec 29 2024 PM Self-Care Workshop: Resting In the Radiant Abodes: Mindful Movement, Restorative Yoga and Guided Meditation To Find Balance And Equanimity

€30.00

In this self-care workshop, we’ll use a blend of gentle movement, restorative yoga and mindfulness based meditation to gently invite ourselves into a greater sense of balance, clarity and ease.

We’ll begin with some gentle movement and breathwork to release blocked energy, whether that is because of stagnation or tension.

Then, we gradually invite the bodymind towards a state of deepening rest and relaxation using restorative yoga to restore and rebalance. For those who are new to Restorative yoga, it is the practice of arranging the body in a variety of poses of comfort and ease that simultaneously aim to release stress in the body and mind. To ensure the essential component of comfort and ease, we use yoga props such as cushions, bolsters, straps and blocks to fully support the body. Because the body is completely held by the props, there is almost zero muscular effort required and we can stay in the positions for longer than we could if we were without support. This allows us to reap the benefits of various shapes without any depletion of our energy; on the contrary, the process replenishes.

We conclude with mindfulness meditation and the profounding nourishing and empowering practice of the Brahma Viharas; The Radiant Abodes of Lovingkindness, Compassion, Joy and Equanimity. Each month we’ll emphasize one abode in particular, so over time, you’ll come to explore each one in more depth.

An essential element in all three elements (gentle movement and breath, restorative yoga and in the mindful development of the radiant abodes) is that we are not rushed, but can set aside some time to listen inward, and to nourish ourselves deeply. Three hours may seem like a very long time, but it is a kind of re-set that is so necessary, especially in our increasingly fast-paced and virtual world. And we are worthy of three hours of relaxation and reconnection.

Some may think that this kind of self-care is an indulgence but yoga sees things very differently. When we are stressed, depleted and lacking clarity, we are less able to show up for our responsibilities with resiliance, kindness and wisdom. So when we rest and rebalance, we are actually much more able to engage with others with ease and generosity. So this gift of going inward that self care is becomes a gift of going back out into the world with more to offer others; it’s actually a gift to all with whom you share your life. Because we are so fundamentally interconnected, all authentic self-care contributes to the wellness of the collective. So give and receive this monthly gift of deep relaxation and learn how to do it for yourself on the regular!
