Due to popular demand we are returning to the core!
Sat 2:00pm-5:00pm Oct 12th, Nov 9th, Dec 7th
I’m delighted to say that our summer “Explore Your Core” was a great success and many wanted to participate but could not so we are bringing it back for the autumn/winter season. (look out for “Explore Your Pelvic Floor” in the Spring!)
This course of three sessions over three months is rooted in the idea that your core power involves the whole torso, upper and lower, front, back and sides; hence the core idea of a “corso.”
This wisdom of this corso approach takes us far beyond the surface abdominal muscles — we go deeper and broader to explore the whole muscular wrap and skeletal structure of the corso of the body, meaning the place that is home to the heart, lungs, gut and spinal column—in other words the engine, the fuel tanks and the main information superhighway.
This “Corso” approach is not about having some perfect “image” body but having a strong supple real life body and more importantly, a really ALIVE and responsive body, meaning one that breathes freely, can recognise and release itself from dysfunctional patterns, and can move powerfully and rest easefully to support all aspects of your life.
Each session will begin with a variety of preparatory breathwork techniques and this breath exploration is often facilitated by self-massage with yoga therapy balls for both the back and front and side seams of the cross. Once we have relaxed and released the natural breath and learned how to engage the breath for strengthening work, we move into physical postures and dynamic sequences to awaken and activate the entire corso. Each session will finish with a deep relaxation and a period of rest to allow the body mind to process and integrate.
The sessions will build cumulatively, and participants will learn how to work the techniques at home to gain and maintain confidence and relative ease with the breath work and self-massage as the postures and sequences become progressively more challenging to accommodate growing power and resilience.
To Explore your Core is indeed a challenge; not only on a physiological level, but on a mental and emotional level—we have so many pre-conceived ideas about what bodies should look like, and this, along with our own histories means we hold deep emotional and psychological patterns in the core. The work involves as much “undoing” as doing as we re-pattern our breath, posture and stories about ourselves and how we “should” be. But the work reaps enormous benefits on multiple levels; we’ll emerge with a clearer experiential understanding of, not only strong and healthy physical posture, but also the anatomy of breath, digestion, the nervous system and a clearer sense of how our emotional and psychological landscapes map our bodies.
You will emerge from this three month journey not a brand new you (no such thing), but a more whole and a more true you—as one who lives both from the inside out and the outside in, so that you feel more connected to yourself and your surroundings and more confident living in the skin you’re in.
This course is a weaving together of numerous sources and techniques in the field of yoga movement and mindfulness. It is primarily based on the Jill Miller’s Yoga Tune Up Techniques and Roll Model Method, which I learned from my teacher Stacey Rosenberg. However, I will be weaving in the teachings of Judith Hansen Lasater on experiential anatomy & restorative yoga, the wisdom of Donna Fahri’s “Pathways to a Centered Body” and my teacher Katchie Ananda’s kind, wise and playful dharma-based focus on the ILCB (innocent little creature body).
Come to get strong, have fun, let go of some dysfunctional patterns of body mind and embrace your wise and compassionate core power.
