Explore Your Core

This course of three sessions over three months is rooted in the idea that your core power involves the whole torso, upper and lower, front, back and sides; hence the core idea of a “corso.” This wisdom of this corso approach takes us far beyond the surface abdominal muscles — we go deeper and broader to explore the whole muscular wrap and skeletal structure of the corso of the body, meaning the place that is home to the heart, lungs, gut and spinal column—in other words the engine, the fuel tanks and the main information superhighway. click on image to learn more and sign up

Beginning Mindful Yoga: 6 week courses

In these 6 week Beginning Mindful Yoga courses we work with the fundamentals of Mindfulness and Hatha Yoga and explore how they work together to help us find more ease and peace in body and mind. On the continuum of yoga styles, some gentle, some vigorous, this is a more physically gentle style of practice, tending towards a slower flow when we flow from one pose to another and often pausing to break down the elements of the yoga postures and modifying poses using props. We’ll also incorporate deeply relaxing restorative yoga poses and meditation. click on image to learn more

Mindful Yoga for Teens Weekly Course

More and more, teenagers are prone to stress and anxiety, some of which is part of the natural upheaval of crossing from being children to young adults, but increasingly competitive academic standards and the ubiquitous nature of social media have also taken a heavy toll. Mindfulness based yoga and meditation has been proven to be effective at reducing stress and anxiety by bringing participants back to the present moment and anchoring them in the breath and the immediate sensations of the body in motion. Mindful yoga helps teens connect with their internal capacities for ease and happiness as well as developing a healthy self-esteem and confidence in their future. DIY Yoga: How to Cultivate Home Practice

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO PARTICIPATE IN EVERY SESSION IN THIS SERIES—BUT YOU WILL PROBABLY WANT TO :) Yoga is a small word that points towards a big picture—living in a state of well-being that is informed by our natural capacity for happiness, wisdom & peace. While it’s origins are in ancient India, it is a living tradition and has much to offer people of all ages & from all backgrounds and requires no adherence to any one set of cultural or religious beliefs.
This long and rich history, the river of yoga, brings us a treasure trove of potent practices, spanning techniques of physical, psychological, emotional and spiritual well-being; while one doesn’t have to engage in all these practices to feel the benefits of yoga (indeed it would be impossible to do them all), it’s empowering to learn a variety of practices and the appropriate contexts for them so that we can have a selection of tools in our yoga toolbox. Then our yoga toolbox becomes our own personal maintenance and repair kit for what a good deal of what ails us.  Click on image to learn more and sign up

Rest & Renew: Yoga and the Art of Deep Relaxation

Deep Relaxation is an essential component of balance in a world increasingly out of balance. Modern living overemphasizes activity and rest is distinctly under-valued. Generally, we swing from over stimulation to collapse and don’t find a place of sustainable rest and relaxation in between. However, without sufficient qualitative rest, our whole system—body mind heart—becomes chronically stressed and this seriously diminishes our natural capacity for well-being.

BEGINNING YOGA FOR MEN | 3 Week Course

It's funny that many guys tend to think of Yoga as a "women's" thing because up until the last century, yoga was almost exclusively practiced by men and the ladies were excluded. The tables have turned and in the west nowadays, ladies far out number the men in the yoga studios but gentlemen, we want you back! However, it seems some guys are hesitant to be the lone guy in the room, so we are hoping that beginning with this special Men's course, guys will feel less self conscious about trying yoga. click on image to read more

Introduction to Metta Practice (Lovingkindness): Moving and Sitting Meditation

In this workshop we will seek to make friends with our body heart mind and find friendship with sitting and moving practice rather than seeing it as another "self-improvement" thing we should do. Yoga, whether as movement or meditation is not about perfecting a posture but rather perfecting our capacity to love, ourselves and others. If this sounds hokey, be warned, it's a fierce practice and one that shows us how challenging it is to love ourselves fully, no part left out. Unconditional love is not for the faint-hearted, it takes commitment and practice and it totally against the grain of the culture we live in.

This practice is the basis of all teaching at yoga hOMe sligo. Come see for yourself what it's all about.

Yoga Spring Clean: Shoulders and Hips Self-Care & Restorative

Yoga Spring Clean: Shoulders and Hips Self-Care & Restorative

Spring is classically a time to clean out the house--to clear out the clutter, open the windows and let in the fresh air and the growing light. We need a similar process for our own physical, emotional and psychological experience.

In this workshop, we'll be opening shoulders and hips, trying to release tightness and tension, making space for the free-flow of prana (energy) to both nourish and cleanse the whole bodymindheart. Once we've actively engaged with the outer body to open up the gates, so to speak, we shall rest back into some passively held supported "restorative" poses to allow for the full immersion of the inner body in the replenishing power of breath and body resting in silence and stillness. This is balancing process for the nervous system and is the essence of Hatha Yoga, bringing the stimulating sun energy (ha) and the grounding moon energy (tha) into a healthy alignment so that we can step back into our lives re-freshed, renewed, calm & connected.
